Because\u00a0the book is set at the Portland&#8217;s Heathman Hotel, Liquid Kitchen created the<strong>\u00a050 Shades of Gin<\/strong>\u00a0drink for the Heathman Restaurant &amp; Bar&#8217;s new cocktail menu. This sin&#8217;sual cocktail combines gin with fresh tangerine, lemon juice, pomegranate juice, and a sprig of\u00a0thyme.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.evrimgallery.com\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-988 lazyload\" data-src=\"http:\/\/liquidkitchen.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/50shadesgin_edited-210x300.jpg\" alt=\"50 Shades of Gin\" width=\"210\" height=\"300\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 210px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 210\/300;\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nPhoto by <a title=\"Evrim Photography\" href=\"http:\/\/www.evrimgallery.com\">Evrim Photography<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>50 Shades of Gin<\/strong><br \/>\nDepending on the season, use clementines, mandarins, or tangerines.<\/p>\n<p>Makes 1 cocktail<\/p>\n<p>1\/2 tangerine\u00a0(cut crosswise \u2013 use 1\/4 if large)<br \/>\n1 1\/2 ounce\u00a0gin<br \/>\n3\/4 ounce fresh lemon juice<br \/>\n3\/4 ounce simple syrup*<br \/>\n1\/2 oz POM pomegranate juice<br \/>\nGarnish: fresh thyme sprig \u2013 and mini-handcuff garnish \u201cthumb cuffs\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Squeeze tangerine and drop into a mixing glass. Measure in gin, lemon, simple syrup, and pomegranate juice. Fill with ice then cap and shake vigorously. Strain drink into a coupe or large martini glass. Garnish with a fresh thyme sprig.<\/p>\n<p>*To make simple syrup: combine 1 cup sugar with 1 cup boiling water. Stir until dissolved.
